SAMIRA BAWUMIA FOUNDATION TRAINS TEACHERS IN EFFUTU

The Samira Bawumia Empowerment and Humanitarian Projects under the Library in the Box Project on Tuesday July 4, 2023 carried a day’s training programme for teachers in both public and private schools in the Effutu Municipality on the application and usage of past questions to help prepare and assess the strengths and capabilities of students to affect examination outcomes in the Municipality for a brighter future.

The Foundation which is a non-profit organization founded with the goal of empowering the impoverished in Ghana through a variety of social intervention projects as part of the training programme brought together experienced WAEC Chief Examiners as facilitators as well as presented books containing past questions from 1990 till date to all Basic Public and Private schools in the Municipality. The books titled the Catalyst contained past questions on core subject areas studied in the Basic Schools in the country.

Speaking at the training programme, a lead member of the Samira Bawumia Empowerment and Humanitarian Projects, Kwame Ofori Danso, said that the foundation which was founded on three thematic areas including Health, Education and Empowerment under the Library -in- the- Box Project since 2017 has distributed more than 200,000 books to 68 basic schools without Libraries in the country.

According to him, the Foundation has also donated books to 883 schools in 25 Districts across the country since its inception in 2017.

Mr. Danso noted that the Library-in-the-Box project which seeks to encourage reading habits and literacy in schools with the aim of improving learning outcomes distributes boxes filled with storybooks for different levels, adding that it is also targeted at expanding access and closing the literacy gap in basic schools throughout the country.

Addressing the participants at the training workshop, the Effutu Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Alhaji Zubairu Kassim who received the donation, expressed the appreciation of the Effutu people to the Second Lady of the country for choosing the Municipality to benefit from the training and donation of books to affect learning outcomes in the area.

Hon. Zubairu Kassim indicated that the future of the Ghanaian child was very key and the objective of the Samira Bawumia Empowerment and Humanitarian Projects to support the efforts of the government to providing a strong foundation for the effort made by the Ghanaian Child at schooling to drive their comfort to achieve the goals of education ought to be commended.

He said that the training programme will equip the teachers with the requisite skills needed in the usage and application of past questions to assist students to prepare adequately for future examinations for better outcomes.

Hon. Zubairu Kassim encouraged teachers in the Municipality to place importance on the training programme to enable them utilize the books effectively to the benefit of the students with a passionate appeal on them to take good care of the books containing the past questions for future use.
