EFFUTU OBSERVES A MODEST 68TH INDEPENDENCE ANNIVERSARY

The Chiefs and people of Effutu joined the rest of the country to mark Ghana’s 68th Independence Anniversary with a modest celebration as compared to previous years when grand ceremonies ignited the country’s historic day. The event held at the Presbyterian School Park at Winneba on March 6, 2025 featured sixteen (16) basic and second cycle schools at a parade addressed by the Municipal Coordinating Director who is acting as the Municipal Chief Executive.The decision to reduce the scale of celebrations across the country which was a novelty aligned with the new government’s commitment to cut down costs and channel funds into other critical sectors in need of investment. This year’s celebration on the theme, “Reflect, Review, and Reset,” underscored the need for national introspection and forward-thinking policies. Dignitaries at the event included Mr. Alhassan Abdullai Issifu (Municipal Coordinating Director), Nenyi Ghartey VII (Paramount Chief for Effutu Traditional Area), Madam Diana Anderson (Municipal Director of Education) and Chief Superintendent Gabriel Kyei Yeboah (Winneba West District Police Commander) as well as many other dignitaries.The event started with the Municipal Coordinating Director leading an inspection of the mounted parade made up of thirty contingent each from the 16 participating schools and the Winneba cadet corps as well as the Winneba Brigade Band on display. It also captured the presence of students from the various schools, markets women, religious authorities and the residents of the Winneba township.Delivering the welcome address, Madam Diana, the Municipal Director of Education, stressed the importance of prioritizing national development as the foundation for unlocking Ghana’s full potential.“As a country, we must equip our people with the necessary knowledge and skills to succeed. Beyond that, we must rekindle the critical thinking and compassionate efforts of our youth,” she urged.The Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr. Alhassan Abdullai Issifu underscored the need to prioritize investing in unity, discipline, and hard work in the country’s quest for progress. He urged Ghanaians to forge ahead in unity and focus on building a stronger nation devoid of acrimony and political intolerance.“Elections are over, and we have a country to build together,” he affirmed, calling for political rapprochement to ease tensions and promote collective progress.Addressing the broader societal shifts, Mr. Alhassan Abdullai Issifu highlighted the rapidly evolving global landscape, pointing out changes in demographics, politics, and climate. He called for a transformation in national attitudes, urging Ghanaians to focus on long-term development rather than short-term challenges.He further emphasized the role of discipline and hard work in nation-building, particularly among the youth.“Your success in academics and life depends on your willingness to embrace hard work and discipline,” he told the students present. “These are time-tested values that have shaped great men and women throughout history.” Reflecting on Ghana’s history, he urged citizens to learn from past successes and mistakes while upholding democracy, peace, and tolerance.The Effutu MCD called on the youth to embrace education and responsibility to propel them to contribute meaningfully to the nation’s future. Encouraging collective action, he reminded Ghanaians to be inspired by the sacrifices of past leaders and work together for a sustainable development and a brighter future.
