EFFUTU RECORDS 29 CONFIRMED CASES OF CHOLERA WITH 2 DEATHS

The Effutu Municipal Health Directorate in collaboration with the Effutu Municipal Assembly on Monday, February 10, 2025 organized a stakeholders’ Meeting on the Cholera outbreak which has claimed two lives.The meeting attended by the heads of the various government institutions and agencies including the Municipal Assembly, Security agencies as well as selected Assembly Members from coastal communities in the Municipality saw the regional Director for Health Services, Dr. Agnes A. anane giving an overview of the situation in the region.She noted that the outbreak had resulted in 2(children) deaths with 356 suspected cases, including 29 confirmed infections as at Monday, February 10, 2025.The Municipal Director of Health, Dr. Paulette Brown on her part stated that the cholera outbreak in the Effutu Municipality was alarming and urged for swift emergency interventions to curb the situation, with health officials racing to contain the spread. She noted that, 15 patients were receiving treatment at the Winneba Municipal Hospital, with 10 reported to be in critical condition adding that, about 100 patients showing symptoms of cholera were expected to be discharged soon.She expressed gratitude to the Effutu Municipal Assembly for donating mattresses and detergents towards the fight against the spread of the disease. According to her, the disease which is spreading rapidly in coastal fishing communities continues to raise concerns among health officials in the area.The Acting Municipal Chief Executive and Coordinating Director for the Assembly, Mr. Abdullai Alhasan Issifu on his part pledged to provide the resources and logistics needed in deepening the sensitization drive to build the consciousness level of residents on the dangers associated with the disease.He announced a Municipal -wide clean-up exercise especially in the coastal areas on Thursday, February 13, 2925. He appealed to all community members and stakeholders to actively partake in the exercise to support the fight against the spread of the disease in the area.
