The Effutu Municipal Assembly (EMA) in collaboration with the Institute of Local Government Studies and the Office of the Head of Local Government Service, has organized a two-day orientation for Assembly members to equip them with essential knowledge on Decentralization and Local Governance to foster development in their electoral areas. This training program held between October 11 and 12, formed part of a 2024 nationwide orientation and training for assembly members designed to educate participants on Ghana’s decentralization policy, the local governance system, and the Public Relations and Complaints Committee (PRCC) of the Assembly with the goal of positioning them to better understand the system as well as equip them with the knowledge to address issues more effectively.Addressing the participants, the Head of Local Government Service Ing. Dr. Nana Ato Arthur made a passionate appeal to members to chart the path of peace and unity in the run-up to the 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary Elections.He urged members to be proactive in governance and collaborate closely with other stakeholders to ensure effective service delivery.Ing Dr. Nana Ato Arthur urged the Assembly Members to actively implement the knowledge acquired during the orientation.He emphasized that the training led by consultants from the Institute of Local Government Service (ILGS) was designed to enhance their capacity to contribute meaningfully to the development agenda of the Municipality.According to him, the insights and strategies provided were tools for Assembly Members to serve their respective electoral areas better and was therefore crucial for the participants to apply them to promote growth and address the challenges in their various electoral areas.The Presiding Member for the Effutu Municipal Assembly, Hon. Samuel Ghartey, reiterated the importance of utilizing the knowledge gained from the training.He urged the Assembly Members to apply the lessons imparted to them to foster harmony and development.The orientation programme led by the Chief Director of the Office of the Head of Local Government Service (OHLGS), Mrs. Felicia Dapaah Agyemang Boakye covered critical areas such as local governance, community engagement and leadership skills The Participants expressed readiness to implement the strategies and pledged to work in unity for the Municipality’s progress.STORY BY: CHARLES B.
