HOLY SPIRIT CATHOLIC CHURCH MARKS 10TH ANNIVERSARY OF CHURCH AUDITORIUM

The Effutu Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Alhaji Zubairu Kassim on Saturday, July 27, joined other dignitaries to attend a durbar of the 10th Anniversary of the dedication of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church and 40 Years of Evangelization and Service at the University of Education, Winneba.
The church designed and constructed to further the Roman Catholic faith and evangelical work for the spiritual warfare of students of the University has over the period of its existence collaborated well with the University authorities to contribute effectively to shaping the lives graduates produced by the institution.
Dignitaries at the event included the Paramount Chief of the Effutu Traditional Council and Chancellor of the University of Education, Nenyi Ghartey VII, the Metropolitan Archbishop of Cape Coast, Most Rev. Charles Gabriel Palmer- Buckle, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Education, Prof. Stephen Jobson Mitchual, former Vice Chancellor, Prof. Jophus Anamuah-Mensah and the Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University of Education, Prof. Victor Antwi.
The celebration of the anniversary anchored on the theme “Evangelization through Holistic Formation and Service” gave the members of the Church in the University Community the opportunity to remember the great sacrifices made by early Church members and to reflect on the great blessings that have come to them by overcoming the many obstacles to building the House of the Lord at Winneba.
Various speakers at the event touched on the church’s commitment to sharing the gospel as well as bringing about a positive impact on the lives of students of the university and the wider Winneba community.
According to them, the church’s partnership with the University and the approach of holistic formation that nurtures people to become well-rounded, compassionate and purpose -driven leaders who are capable of making a difference in their families and communities need to be commended.
Delivering a goodwill message, the Municipal Chief Executive for the Effutu Municipal Assembly, Hon. Alhaji Zubairu Kassim, charged the church to as a matter of importance promote the study of the subjects that equip the younger generation for jobs, and develop their capacity to compete in the modern world.
He said that as the church continued to encourage the youth to hear the call of the Lord to do his work on earth, it should also spur them on to become industrious and resourceful citizens needed for a properly functioning society to be able to worship in peace.
Hon. Zubairu Kassim lauded the Church for leading the drive for development by building and running schools and hospitals as well as leading the campaign for good sanitation practices in the communities.
He called for the continuous collaboration between the Government and the Church towards working together to improve the conditions of the people.
“We have a young population that is no longer willing to wait for the long-promised improvements in their lives. I believe we can work to raise the pace of development to meet the needs of the people”
The Effutu MCE admonished the church not to contradict and undermine the principle of education and hard work as the surest path to success and progress for both the citizenry and the nation by preaching miracles as the answers to the needs of the communities.
“I will leave the teachings of the Scriptures to those best equipped to do so, but I am certain I do not blaspheme when I say that hard work, education and the grace of God are more reliable paths to riches than miracles”.
Touching on the theme, “Evangelization through Holistic Formation and Service”, Hon. Zubairu Kassim noted that, both the Church and Government were engaged in the same undertaking and must therefore pull resources together to build a happy and prosperous nation, adding that the Church could be very influential by making a dramatic difference in education, health and in sanitation.
