The Effutu Municipal Assembly with support from the United Nations Capital Development Fund has facilitated a tree- day training programme in soap- making and other detergents for 52 women at Nsuekyir near Winneba.
The training which commenced from Thursday, May 9 to Saturday May 11, 2024 formed part of the Local Climate Adaptive Living Facility project geared towards promoting green and climate resilient local economics in Ghana by applying circular economy and climate smart agriculture principles and solutions to local development pathways.
The intervention which was aimed at providing an alternative source of income equipped the participants with the knowledge and practical skills for the production of shampoo, bathing gel, liquid and bar soap as well as detergents using readily available ingredients. The participants were also guided on packaging and marketing their products in both rural and urban markets.
During the training, Juliana Odei Yeboah, a training agent, demonstrated the detergents and soap making process to the beneficiaries, highlighting the financial potential of the business. She emphasized that this venture could generate significant income with minimal investment.
Speaking at a passing out ceremony, the Head of the Business Advisory Centre at the Effutu Municipal Assembly, Miss Linda Amoaning stated the importance of developing a viable business model to ensure the success of their enterprises.
“We believe strongly that by giving you this skilled training, you will possess the knowledge needed in establishing your own businesses as well as help in the management of your finances to sustain the businesses”.
Madam Amoaning after taking the participants through business records keeping and planning on expenditure advised them to always know their needs and budget accordingly to avoid excess expenditure in order not to ruin their businesses. She admonished them to take the knowledge acquired from the lessons received during the training seriously to build and improve their businesses to impact their lives positively.
The Effutu BAC Head also expressed her personal commitment and that of her outfit at providing business skills training to support the growth and sustainability of businesses that might spring up as a result of the training received.
Miss Linda Amoaning pledged to provide further assistance to participants who demonstrate a commitment to starting their detergents and soap making businesses.
The training concluded with the provision of start-up kits for the participants to enable them use the knowledge received to start businesses to impact their lives and help build the local economy.
The participants expressed their gratitude to the Effutu Municipal Assembly and the United Nations Capital Development Fund for their dedication to helping the local people to realize alternative sources of income to improve their livelihoods.
