The Municipal Chief Executive for the Effutu Municipality Hon. Alhaji Zubairu Kassim has admonished residents of Effutu and its adjoining surroundings on the need to adopt the habit of regular checkups to know their HIV/AIDS status.
According to him, regular sensitization on the prevalence rate as well as the dangers in contracting the disease needed to be intensified in the communities to create awareness on the HIV/AIDs virus to aid the fight against the disease.
He again explained the need for such important sensitization programmes for the community members to be abreast on issues surrounding the disease to enable them make informed choices to help reduce the high rate of transmission among residents in the communities.
Hon. Zubairu Kassim made these known when the Wise Youth Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organization based in Winneba paid a courtesy on him on Monday, April 29, 2024.
The visit was to inform the Effutu MCE about a collaborative work between the group and the Municipality on HIV/AIDS advocacy, screening and counselling during the Aboakyir festive season.
Advising the public to abstain from stigmatizing persons living with HIV, Hon. Zubairu Kassim emphasized the need to get tested in order for the virus to be managed at an early stage if one was found to have tested positive and living with the virus.
The Effutu MCE made a passionate appeal to parents and guardians to educate their wards on the continuous existence of the HIV/AIDS virus to influence their sexual lifestyles and help to reduce the high rate of the viral transmission and premature death in the various communities.
The President and Co- Founder of the Wise Young Foundation, Charles Ghunney expressed the appreciation of the group to the MCE for the warm reception and the pledge to support in their quest to propagate information on the HIV/AIDS in the Effutu Municipality during the Aboakyir festive season to help reduce the spread of the virus.
