SACRED HEART CATHOLIC CHURCH LAUNCHES CENTENARY CELEBRATION IN WINNEBA

The Sacred Heart Parish of the Catholic Church in Winneba on Sunday, October 29, 2023 launched its centenary anniversary, with a call on Catholics and Christians to unite for national cohesion, peace and sustainable development by emulating the sacrifices of the fore fathers who laid down their lives to build God’s temple in Winneba.The church since its inception in October, 1924 has contributed directly and indirectly to the socio-economic and political development of the nation, including the establishment of educational institutions, the provision of health care and other social amenitiesThe Effutu Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Alhaji Zubairu Kassim who chaired the event said that,100 years of the Church’s existence was a reminder for new things to be formed with a challenge to Catholics to move s step further to be united, strong and stand together shoulder to shoulder to fight for God’s kingdom.He urged Christians not to be frightened by the worldly things but focus and redirect their spiritual lives and efforts at things that would bring good deeds to the glory of God. Hon. Zubairu Kassim admonished the church not be subjected to things that would dampen the spirit of its members but prioritize matters and issues that serve the interest of God, the Municipality and the country Ghana.The Effutu MCE challenged the church to continue to exercise its core mandate to shape the society from defraying on the cultural and moral principles of the Catholic faith and the country as a whole as well as stand up against ungodly activities that seek to draw majority of the youth and the Ghanaian people into acquiring wealth that do not conform to their productivity output.He pledged his personal commitment and that of the Effutu Municipal Assembly to support the Sacred Heart Parish of the Catholic Church to role out its year long celebration which is expected to be climaxed in October, 2024.Launching the Centenary Anniversary celebration, the Chairman of the Anniversary Planning Committee, Mr. Jacob Ainoo-Ansah chronicled the history of the church and outlined the activities earmarked to the celebration.Preaching the sermon, the officiating Priest, Rev. Father Amos Quansah encouraged Catholics to appreciate the love of God and uphold the Catholic Faith to win souls for the maker in Heaven.He criticized the look- warm attitude of the members of the church towards Mass celebrations and urged them to be courageous against all forms of predicaments and life-threatening challenges that would discourage them from serving God.
