EFFUTU HOST 2023 ECOWAS QUIZ COMPETITION

Blessed Assurance Preparatory School and Ebenezer Memorial Education Centre in the Effutu Municipality on Friday, October 6, 2023, emerged winners of the 2023 ECOWAS Quiz Competition for the of Junior High School and Primary School categories respectively at an event held at the Ebenezer Methodist Church Auditorium in Winneba.
The competition organized by the Effutu Municipal Education Directorate and solely sponsored by the Effutu Member of Parliament for the Effutu Constituency, Alexander Afenyo- Markin for all Basic Schools within the Municipality was part of activities marking the 2023 Extraordinary Summit of the ECOWAS Parliament Seminar in Winneba.
In all six schools including St. Paul’s Methodist , Ntakorfam M/A , Unipra North , Unipra South A/B, Blessed Assurance Preparatory and Ampah Preparatory Junior High Schools qualified to compete in the grand finale of the event at the Junior High School category whiles Alswell Academy Preparatory, the Light Practice Preparatory, Ebenezer Memorial Education Centre, Ateitu/ Osubonpanyin M/A Primary, Unipra North and Unipra South A/B Primary Schools locked horns to compete for honours at the Primary School category.
The competition was centred on students’ general knowledge on past and present issues of the ECOWAS sub-region, with Blessed Assurance Preparatory winning the first position at the JHS Category with 32 accumulated points and Ntakorfam M/A JHS as well as Ampah Preparatory JHS securing 28 and 23 points to pick the second and third positions respectively. Ebenezer Memorial Education Centre put up a spirited performance to win the primary school category with 30 points whiles their closest opponents, Unipra North Primary school garnered 21 points to place second and Unipra South A/B Primary School scored 18points to take up the third spot.
Addressing the dignitaries and schools present at the event, the Effutu Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Alhaji Zubairu Kassim, explained that the competition was to test students’ knowledge as well as foster unity among the schools in the Municipality and inspired the students to read wide to broaden their knowledge base and enable them realize their educational goals to become illustrious citizens of Effutu in future.
He congratulated the participants of all the schools who made it to the finals and hoped that others would work harder to reach the top in subsequent organizations.
The Paramount Chief of the Effutu Traditional Area, Nenyi Ghartey VII, who chaired the event extolled the exemplary leadership traits of the Effutu Member of Parliament for leading the role to win the hosting right of the extraordinary summit of the ECOWAS Parliament Seminar for Winneba for the second time in two years.
He said that the hosting right came with its corresponding development projects including road construction and has also boosted the local economy in diverse ways with hoteliers and local traders cashing in to increase their sales.
