A stakeholders meeting was held on August 21, 2023 between the Effutu Municipal Assembly and the leadership of Transport Unions at the Winneba Junction Lorry Station to among other things discuss the operations of drivers at the revenue check- point Barrier of the Assembly.At the meeting, the Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr. Banini Dzorgbenyui Kwadzo, admonished the leadership of the unions against loading on the sides of the road, a situation he said creates unnecessary traffic and pose a great danger to vehicles and pedestrians who use the road on a daily basis.Mr. Dzorgbenyui advised the various transport unions at the station to help curb road indiscipline by discouraging the issuance of tickets and booking fees at the sides of the road and encourage their members to load at the lorry station provided for them by the Assembly. He warned that the Municipal Assembly will soon begin the prosecution of offending drivers who refuse to heed to the call to load at the Lorry Station to serve as a deterrent to others, adding that the Assembly will not relent on executing its mandate of maintaining law and order at all levels to bring sanity into the society.The Effutu Coordinating Director appealed to the unions to pay their approved fees on time to spur up the Assembly’s development programmes.On his part, the 1st Trustee of the Winneba Junction- Apam branch of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), Mr. Abdulai K. Mensah, thanked the leadership of the Assembly for the engagement and pledged to ensure enforcement and compliance of the Assembly’s directive by its members to ensure a peaceful coexistence between the Assembly and the unions to bring about progress in the area.He called for more of such engagements periodically with the Assembly to enable them present the issues affecting them for actions to be expedited for positive results to aid the work and existence of the transport sector in the Municipality.STORY BY: CHARLES BAAH ABOAGYE – ISD
