The Director of Tertiary Education at the Ministry of Education, Dr. Yahra Dzakadzie, has encouraged graduates of the universities in Ghana to reflect on what they could contribute to society and use the knowledge acquired to drive the development of the country.
He said that it was high time the country benefitted immensely from the high number of graduates produced by universities in the country in the realization of her development goals as well as cause a shift from its continues deficiency in many areas of development and stressed the need for them to change their orientation towards enhancing the growth of the nation.
Dr. Dzakadzie said this when he delivered an address on behalf of the Minister for Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum at the climax of the 27th Congregation of the University of Education, Winneba.
In all, graduates for the final day of congregation made up of under-graduates from the School of Business, School of Creative Arts, Posts Graduates and PHD received honours in their various areas of studies in an event which was attended by high profile dignitaries including the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Alhaji Zubairu Kassim , Paramount Chief of the Effutu Traditional Area, Nenyi Ghartey VII and the Chairman of the University Governing Council, Nana Ofori Ansah I.
Whiles congratulating them on their academic achievement, Dr. Dzakadzie urged the graduates to inculcate the spirit of serving the nation, volunteerism and commitment to duty and ensure that the country received maximum benefits from the knowledge acquired.
In an interview with the media the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Alhaji Zubairu Kassim charged the graduands to preserve, guard against complacency and work hard to contribute their quotq to the improvement and growth of the country.
He said that the NPP Government realizing the indispensability of education to economic growth and sustainable development has prioritized education to create an enabling environment to boost teaching and learning in the country.
In all, this year’s congregation saw a total of thirteen thousand, nine hundred and ninety-three (13,993) graduands made up of seven thousand, seven hundred and twenty-two (7,722) males and six thousand, two hundred and seventy-four (6274) females, for the 2021/2022 academic year graduated with various honours awarded them by the school.
