The Effutu Municipal Assembly (EMA) on Friday, June 13, 2025 hosted a stakeholder meeting on the siting, construction and operationalization of a model 24hour economy market in Winneba as part of the Government’s flagship programmes.The meeting, which was held at the Municipal Assembly’s Conference Hall, brought together interested groups from all parts of the Municipality, including chiefs, Assembly Members, traders, technocrats, as well as civil society groups to help identify a viable commercial centre for the setting up of a modern market to enhance commercial activities in the Municipality.The meeting created a platform for the Assembly to engage with stakeholders, solicit stakeholder feedback on the designs, siting and construction of the 24hour market in Winneba and suggest areas for improvement, as well as promote awareness and understanding of the proposed project and its accompanying benefits for the Effutu people.Addressing the participants, the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Rev. Atta Mensah rallied the support of all residents of Effutu for the construction of the modern market to boost the 24-hour economy initiative by the Government of President John Dramani Mahama.According to him, Government has allocated 25% of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), which amounts to GHC 24 million annually to develop these commercial hubs in strategic areas across the country.He noted that the policy aims to keep the country’s economy running continuously with a focus on production, service delivery, agriculture and manufacturing. Roling out the design of the project, the Municipal Development Planning Officer, Mr. Abubakar Saddique Adam stated that the plan incudes a school to allow for parents to work in the market while their kids attend school as well as Fire and Police Posts to cater for emergencies like fire and theft.The Paramount Chief of the Effutu Traditional Area, Nenyi Ghartey VII on his part pledged the support and commitment of the traditional authorities for the project in Winneba.He said that an ultra-modern market project which has been on the hearts and minds of Nananom for a very long time will open up Winneba as a major commercial centre to the rest the country when completed.According to him, sustainable jobs will be created to affect the local economy and drive in the desired development needed in Effutu.
