Thirty- Nine outstanding teaching and non-teaching staff in basic and second cycle schools in the Effutu Municipality were on Friday, November 29, 2024, honoured for their hard work and dedicated service towards education growth in the area.The Awards ceremony which marked the fourth edition of the Effutu Teachers Awards, initiated and sponsored by the Effutu Member of Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin was organized by the Municipal Directorate of Education.The event which was well patronized by dignitaries including the Paramount Chief of the Effutu, Traditional Area, Nenyi Ghartey VII and the Effutu Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Alhaji Zubairu Kassim was under the theme “Valuing Teacher Voices: Towards A New Social Contract for Education”.Delivering his address at the ceremony, the Majority Leader and Member for the Effutu constituency, Hon. Alexzander Afenyo-Markin assured his constituents of his continuous commitment at offering the best leadership to improve the standard of education in the area.Describing teachers as the bedrock and conscience of the society, Hon. Afenyo-Markin lauded teachers for their continuous dedication and hard work in guiding and shaping the future generation of leaders for the country.He pledged to invest more in education to help build a strong and solid human resource base needed for the future development of Effutu and the country as a whole.Hon. Afenyo Markin enumerated the numerous projects and assistance executed during his administration as Member of Parliament, including school projects, health facilities, employment opportunities, and logistical support for institutions among others. He congratulated the awardees for their selflessness towards the improvement of education in Effutu, saying it was both exemplary and commendable.The Effutu Law Maker urged teachers to continue with their noble work in shaping academically productive and patriotic citizens. He admonished them to continue to work hard to be recognized and appreciated.The Effutu Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Alhaji Zubairu Kassim on his part noted that Hon. Afenyo-Markin’s zeal for instituting the annual awards for teachers in the Municipality stemmed from the fact that he represents the heartbeat of educational excellence in Effutu.Pledging the continuous collaboration between the Assembly and the Member of Parliament, Hon. Zubairu Kassim intimated that valuing teacher voices help to create effective, inclusive and responsive educational system. He added that quality education fosters a skilled workforce needed for the progress of any community. Madam Doris Anderson, the Effutu Municipal Director for the Ghana Education Service highlighted the significance of recognizing the contribution of teachers, particularly in addressing the declining results in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).She thanked the Effutu MP for his continuous support in improving education delivery in the municipality.She mentioned, the one teacher, one laptop project, construction of Information Communication Technology (ICT) centres, and the construction of a number of libraries among others as some of the projects that had been undertaken by the MP.Madam Anderson stated that quality education encompassed import aspect of the educational system such as infrastructure, school building, administration, leadership, management, teacher training, educational material, teachers and students’ achievement and urged stakeholders to work towards achieving that.The thirty- nine (39) award winners received various prizes including; certificates, citations, double door refrigerators, 43 inch coloured Television sets, Gas Ovens and a cash amount of Ghc1000.00 each.
