The Majority Leader of Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin has been honoured by the Effutu Traditional Council as the “Nkosuohene” (Development Chief) of Winneba, receiving the esteemed tittle of “Osahene.” The conferment of the Osahene tittle on the Effutu Legislator at a special durbar of Chiefs and People of Winneba held on Tuesday, November 19, 2024 was in recognition of his contribution and dedication to the development and welfare of the Effutu people.In a statement to express his gratitude for the recognition, Hon. Afenyo-Markin, acknowledged the Paramount Chief for Effutu, Neenyi Ghartey VII as well as the Council of Chiefs for finding him worthy of the tittle by bestowing the honour on him.According to him, the Osahene tittle which constitutes a mark of bravery, will go a long way to motivate him to intensify his efforts at serving his constituents and fostering development. He noted that, the tittle conferred on him was deep rooted in Effutu Tradition, reflecting leadership, commitment, and a deep connection to the cultural heritage of the area.Hon. Afenyo- Markin, inspired by the show of love and appreciation by the Effutu people mentioned key areas for consideration if given the nod to lead the development of Effutu in the next Parliament as sports development, entrepreneurial skills development with start-up capital, as well as market expansion programs to boost trade and open up local businesses to affect the local economy positively.The occasion was graced by dignitaries including the Effutu Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Alhaji Zubairu Kassim and the Vice Chancellor of the University of Education, Winneba, Prof Stephen Jobson Mitchual.
