BAAG HOLDS SECOND ANNUAL CONFERENCE IN WINNEBA

The Budget Analysts Association of Ghana (BAAG) on Thursday, November 14, 2024 opened its Second Annual Conference in Winneba to brainstorm measures for the advancement of the association and financial management in the Public Sector.The two-day Conference held on the theme “Effective Resource Allocation for Sustainable Development” brought together hundreds of BAAG members across the country to deliberate on pertinent issues militating against the Budget profession as well as exchange knowledge, ideas and experiences for best practices in budgeting to enhance the Class and improve service delivery in the Public and Local Government Services. In an address to open the conference, the Municipal Chief Executive for the Effutu Municipal Assembly, Hon. Alhaji Zubairu Kassim noted that Budget Analysts stand at the intersection of policy and practice where informed analysis and strategic foresight shape the very fabric of the nation’s development agenda.According to him, the expertise of Budget Analysts empowers decision-makers to allocate resources efficiently towards ensuring that investments yield sustainable outcomes for future generations.Hon. Zubairu Kassim intimated that effective resources allocation hinges on several key principles including data collection where reliable data is collected and analyzed to identify needs accurately to help leaders allocate resources to areas where they are most needed to have the greatest impact on the lives of the people.The Effutu MCE reminded Budget Analysts of the role they play in forming the plans of the country’s financial strategies as well as wielding data and insights to inform resource allocation decisions, adding that the analysis by the Budget Analysts guide in the identification of priority areas that require immediate attention and investment.On her part the Chief Director for the Ministry of Finance, Ms. Eva Esselba Mends admonished Budget Analysts to abstain from partisan politics as the 2024 general elections approaches.She noted that the Budget Class was pivotal in the various Regional Coordinating Councils and Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies and encouraged them to commit to their core mandate with high level professionalism by demonstrating respect to key players and take advantage of the digital age to learn new skills to enhance their capacity.
