The Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Winneba on Sunday, October 27, 2024 held a Thanksgiving Mass and Durbar to climax its 100 years of existence, nourishing the body and soul of the faithful as well as the development of the community, dubbed “100 Years of Evangelism- Going Forward with Communion, Participation and Mission”.Established in 1924 with the hope of pushing for the “infinite goodness, the blessings he promised to the blessed Margaret Mary” on the people of Winneba and its adjoining communities, the church has connected well to the growth of the Effutu enclave with many foundational stories relevant to the current generation of catholic faithful in the area.100 years on, the church, which has since become part of the Cape Coast Arch-Dioceses of the Catholic Church, has led to the transformation of lives, the education of many, and the creation of jobs through its humanitarian ventures as well as leading the charge for total peace in the area in times of disagreements amongst the people.Touching on the theme, the Effutu Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Alhaji Zubairu Kassim noted that it is not just a call to action but a reminder of the foundation on which the church stands.He reminded the congregants of their shared faith and unity in a society often divided, with a call on them to come together as one body, sharing in the love and grace the Lord has extended to the people.Hon. Zubairu Kassim encouraged members to actively engage in the Church’s mission in divers’ ways through volunteerism works, community service and by supporting the needy in a bid to ensuring that the Catholic Church remained vibrant and responsive to the needs of the community.The Effutu MCE lauded the enormous contributions of the Catholic Church to the Socio- economic development of the country, adding that the Church has over the years nurtured men and women of high morals, who have contributed immensely to the nation.He congratulated the Sacred Heart Catholic Church on their milestone and urged them to continue to uphold the tenets of the Catholic faith.According to him, the centenary celebration of the church marks the launching point into a new era of service, love and evangelism by drawing its strength from the past, embracing the present whiles looking forward with hope and enthusiasm. Delivering the sermon, a former Metropolitan Archbishop of the Cape Coast Diocese of the Catholic Church, His Grace, Archbishop Emeritus Kobina Nketsia admonished the Church in Winneba to draw members closer to God by supporting them in times of need.He charged the leadership of the Church to consider establishing a foundation to offer assistance to its members and help the growth of the Church. This according to him will help arrest the dwindling membership of the church to other churches.
