The Effutu Municipal Assembly on Tuesday, August 27, 2024 held its Second Ordinary Meeting of the First Session of the Eighth Assembly to transact the agenda on its order paper.The Meeting presided over by Hon. Samuel Ghartey (Presiding Member) was attended by Assembly members from all the 18 Electoral Areas and Government Appointees as well as the Heads of the various Government Departments, Units and Agencies of the Assembly.Presenting his sessional address, the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Alhaji Zubairu Kassim touched on a wide range of issues including security, education, health agriculture, revenue, social welfare and community development as well as sanitation and health management.He noted that the regular presence of security personnel had contributed to the maintenance of peace and security in the municipality during the period under review. According to him, the security agencies in the Municipality led by the Ghana Police Service during the period worked tirelessly to secure the peace and security being enjoyed in the area.On road infrastructure, Hon. Zubairu Kassim announced that the Assembly through the Ghana Highways Authority was undertaking the rehabilitation and partial reconstruction of selected roads in Winneba covering 8.70 kilometers with 60% of the road currently prepared for sealing and on-going. He mentioned the rehabilitation of the Anglican Church- Copa Junction and Gyahadze- Atekyedo roads, the construction of Eyigya Lodge-Veterinary and Kojo Bedu- Water Works roads with approximately 700 meters sealed so far, the construction of Fetteh Wonsom Area roads and asphaltic overly of selected roads in Winneba as projects being undertaken under the supervision of the Department of Urban Roads.On Agriculture, the MCE enumerated a number of initiatives that the municipality had benefited from including a training programme on disease prevention and management for crops and demonstrations on best practices in maize production to ensure food security and boost the income levels of farmers in the area. The Department of Agriculture among other things engaged selected communities in sensitization programmes on the Planting for Food and Jobs 2.0 (PFJ2.0) as well as on Climate Smart Agriculture with collaboration from Local Climate Adaptive Living (LoCAL).Hon. Zubairu Kassim urged members and staff of the Assembly to continuously work diligently with unwavering commitment to enhance the quality of services provided to the Effutu people. He appealed to all stakeholders to come together with a collective effort and strive relentlessly for excellence for the betterment of the people and the municipality as a whole.
