CENTRAL REGION NHIA HOLDS PERFORMANCE REVIEW MEETING IN WINNEBA

The National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) in the Central Region has commenced its 2024 Mid-Year Performance Review in Winneba, the capital of the Effutu Municipal Assembly with an active membership of 1, 291305 people rolled onto the scheme in the region as at June 2024.The meeting which was on the theme “Strategizing to achieve good results” brought together stakeholders including the Municipal Chief Executive for the Effutu Municipal Assembly as well as former and current staff of the authority to strategize by sharing ideas and experiences and also chart a way forward for more wins in future.The Regional Manager of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Mr. Fred Appiah, who gave an overview of the scheme in the region noted that the Authority achieved an enrollment of 1,291,305 out of its targeted number of 1,709, 649 for the year ending 2024.He explained that the scheme targeted to register every resident in the region to enable them to access health care services at any point in time without worrying about its cost implications.“I am also glad to announce that we have covered a greater part of people considered indigent and require free social services; these people are rolled onto the scheme and issued cards to access healthcare without paying for the service,” Mr. Appiah stated.He announced that, the authority in the region realized Ghc 5,315,768.34 representing 63.14% of its revenue target of GHc 8,419,431.76 budget target for the year ending 2024.He assured however that although the Authority was faced with some operational challenges such as poor network in some communities which affected mobile renewal and poor road network, the NHIA was prepared to attain universal coverage to ensure that people were able to access prompt health care without having to bother about cost.The Effutu Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Alhaji Zubairu Kassim, patted the staff on the shoulder for what he described as sterling performance and encouraged them to weather the challenges and provide the best service for the region.He reechoed the announcement of an amount of GHc 4.4 million voted by the Government during the 20th Anniversary celebration of the National Health Insurance Authority to subsidize the cost of dialysis treatment for persons under 18 years and above 60 years. Hon. Zubairu Kassim charged participants to join the crusade on sensitizing people with kidney related ailments to take advantage of the Government dialysis subsidy programme to receive free eight dialysis sessions every month.He appealed to the stakeholders at the Mid-Year Performance Review meeting to use the occasion to brainstorm and come up with strategies aimed at increasing enrollment as well as sustaining the scheme for effective health care delivery in all parts of the country.
