EFFUTU MCE PLANTS A TREE TO MARK 2024 GREEN GHANA DAY AT WINNEBA

The Municipal Chief Executive for the Effutu Municipal Assembly, Hon. Alhaji Zubairu Kassim has planted a commemorative tree on the fourth edition of the Green Ghana Project at Winneba with a call on residents of Effutu to come together and commit to the planting and growing of at least 100 thousand trees for a greener tomorrow for the survival of generations unborn. This year’s edition of the Green Ghana Day which offered an extraordinary opportunity for all Ghanaians to contribute to making the country greener and habitable was marked under the theme “Growing for a Greener Tomorrow”.At the Presbyterian School Park at Winneba on Friday, June 7, 2024, members of the Management and Heads of the various Government Department and Agencies as well as staff of the Effutu Municipal Assembly and school children joined the Municipal Chief Executive on an exercise to commemorate the 2024 Green Ghana Day.  Addressing the participants, Hon. Alhaji Zubairu Kassim reiterated that the project was an initiative of the government of Ghana as part of an aggressive national afforestation and reforestation programme to restore the lost forest cover of Ghana and to contribute to the global effort to mitigate climate change. He encouraged residents of Effutu to support the planting and nurturing of the 100,000 seedlings provided in all the 18 Electoral Areas to ensure they flourished in the various homes and communities for the realization of the goal of greening the entire country, adding that “saving lives and our planet is a collective responsibility.” The Effutu Mayor stressed on the need for the adage, “when the last tree dies, the last man dies”, to resonate in the minds of all Ghanaians and spur them on to work together to save the Planet Earth for both current and future generations.”  This year’s project in the Effutu Municipality targeted the planting of 100,000 (One Hundred Thousand) tree seedlings within the Municipality, out of which 10,000 (ten thousand) seedlings were expected to be planted in Winneba including degraded forest reserves, while 5000 (five thousand) seedlings each were to be planted around farms, degraded watershed areas and medians of roads, in all the 18 (Eighteen) Electoral Areas in the Municipality.
