The Mumbies Foundation Ghana with support from the Effutu Member of Parliament has launched a Hepatitis B Awareness Day at Winneba on Monday, May 27, 2024 to help raise awareness about Hepatitis B and its impact on millions of lives.
The day which coincided with the birthday of the Effutu law- maker provided a platform for a Hepatitis B sensitization and testing at the Winneba Local Prisons where inmates were educated on the dangers associated with the virus.
Resource persons drawn from the Winneba Municipal Hospital took the inmates through the causes, signs/symptoms, impact and prevention of Hepatitis B.
The Effutu Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Alhaji Zubairu Kassim lauded the contribution and commitment of Hon. Afenyo-Markin towards the Hepatitis B fight in the area.
He said that the donation of Ghc 1million by the Effutu MP who doubles as the Majority Leader of Parliament towards the fight of the deadly disease in the Effutu Municipality has helped to increase the awareness and understanding of viral hepatitis B.
Hon. Zubairu Kassim noted that the country was experiencing a growing burden of hepatitis infections and mortalities coupled with very low rates of diagnosis, treatment and awareness.
The Effutu MCE intimated that everyone was vulnerable to the viral hepatitis B disease and, therefore, called on all to get tested to enable the country to realize its target to diagnose 90 per cent of Hepatitis B cases and put at least 80 per cent on treatment to help nip the growing burden in the bud.
Hon. Zubairu Kassim on behalf of the Effutu MP donated a 50 Inch Smart Television, assorted drinks, toiletries and an amount Ghc 5000 to the inmates and rallied them to support the Effutu MP’s quest to continue to offer the leadership with the focus of extending development to all communities within the Municipality.
