A farewell dinner for delegates from Charlottesville, USA who visited Winneba to be part of the 2024 celebration of Aboakyir Festival was organized by the Effutu Municipal Assembly on Wednesday, May 8, 2024.
The delegates including the immediate past Mayor of Charlottesville, Lloyd Snook was in Ghana to among other things study the culture and traditions of the Effutu people as well as join the people in the celebration of the 2024 Aboakyir Festival of the Chiefs and people of Effutu.
In an address the immediate past Mayor of Charlottesville, Lloyd Snook expressed the appreciation of the delegation for the hospitable and warm reception accorded them by the Effutu Municipal Assembly and the Effutu people.
He said that the trip to Ghana had afforded the delegation from Charlottesville an opportunity to learn a lot about the culture and traditions of the Effutu people as well as interacted well with the local people to share their experiences with them.
The Paramount Chief of the Effutu Traditional Area, Nenyi Ghartey VII, thanked the Winneba Charlottesville Foundation for placing value on the sister-city partnership with Winneba by extended support to all sectors of the local economy to spearhead its development. He said that the partnership between the two cities will go a long way to deepen the bond established between the two to achieve mutual benefits.
For his part, the Effutu Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Alhaji Zubairu Kassim reechoed the importance the Assembly attached the partnership with the Winneba Charlottesville Foundation and expressed its commitment towards working to deepen it to benefit both cities.
He listed the various support offers for all sector of the economy received by Winneba from the partnership with Charlottesville including health, security and education.
The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Alhaji Zubairu Kassim, on behalf of the Assembly, decorated the team members with designed Kente cloths made in Winneba to foster the bond of friendship between the two cities.
Present at the dinner were the Medical Superintendent of the Effutu Municipal Hospital, Dr. Akwasi Bota, Presiding Member of the Effutu Municipal Assembly, Hon. Samuel Ghartey, Municipal Director of Education, Madam Diana Anderson, Heads of Department of the Assembly as well as staff of the Effutu Municipal Assembly.
