As part of measures at ensuring that motorized tricycle also known as Aboboyaa riders comply with the restriction and directives for the realization of an accident free Aboakyir Festival celebration, the Effutu Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Alhaji Zubairu Kassim on Thursday, May 2, 2024 joined forces with the Ghana Police Service in the area engage Aboboyaa riders on road safety regulations and bi- laws of the Assembly.
The engagement was necessary to help curb the high rate of “gross indiscipline” on the roads by the motorized tricycle riders and to prevent carnage on the streets of Effutu before, during and after the Aboakyir Festival.
The Aboboyaa riders who were engaged in areas such as Nkwantanan, Yepemso,Winneba Main Station/Market and Sankor were taken through strict regulatory compliance with LI 2180, approved areas for their operation during the Aboakyir season and the age limit set a person to drive or ride in the country.
Hon. Zubairu Kassim warned that the Police would not hesitate to apprehend recalcitrant riders as well as impound their tricycles for defying the directives.
He said that Effutu Municipal Assembly in collaboration with the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service would rigorously enforce road traffic regulations in the Municipality during the season.
The Effutu Divisional Police Commander, ACP Jeffery Darkoh, advised the riders to operate within the laws of the land by restricting themselves in designated areas and ride with care to prevent accidents.
