EMA INAUGURATES 8TH ASSEMBLY

The Effutu Municipal Assembly on Monday, February 12, 2024 inaugurated the 8th Assembly made up of eighteen (18) elected members, eight (8) Government Appointees as well as eighty-nine (89) unit committee members at the Conference Hall of the newly constructed edifice of the Municipal Assembly.The inauguration of the Assembly saw the members sworn into office by the Magistrate of the Winneba court, Her Worship, Josphine Abigail Fosuah Appiah through the administration of the oath of office and secrecy.Delivering a speech on behalf of the President of the Republic, the Government representative, Prof. Samuel Bert Boadi Kusi, congratulated Members and charged them to take advantage of mechanisms and other innovative systems developed by the Local Government and Rural Development Ministry to improve upon the internally Generated Funds (IGF) of the Assembly.He urged them to work assiduously to be part of the team to finally change the status quo and deepen local governance and decentralization to enable the citizens have access to basic public services in the Municipality rather than demanding for such services from Accra.He further called for the continuous support of the Assembly Members towards building the capacity as well as sensitize all citizens on the tenets of decentralization and Ghana’s local governance system.The President entreated the new Assembly Members to partner with the Municipal Chief Executive to advance the implementation of the Government’s Coordinated Programme of Economics and Social Development Policies (2022-2025) which spell out the Agenda for Jobs II while creating prosperity and equal opportunities for all.The Municipal Chief Executive for the Effutu Municipal Assembly, Hon. Alhaji Zubairu Kassim stressed the need for members to work together and tap from the experience of the old Assembly to buil a strong Assembly for the Effutu people.He reminded members of the rules and regulations guiding the operations of the Assembly which ensures that no one is exempt from the consequences of criminal actions brought about as a result of their actions and inactions.Touching on the need to recognize the usefulness of existing institutions such as the traditional, formal, non- formal, governmental and non- governmental institutions, Hon. Zubairu Kassim noted that it was imperative for the house to collaborate with all relevant stakeholders for the betterment of the area.He admonished them to take into cognisance of the fact that the office of the Assembly man does not replace the roles of traditional leaders but requires for harmonious collaboration to bring about development.The House proceeded with the election and swearing -in of a Presiding Member with the only candidate Hon. Samuel Ghartey securing a 100% (27 out of 27) endorsement in an election supervised by the Effutu Municipal Directorate of the Electoral Commission of Ghana.
