EFFUTU MP SPONSORS LICENSE ISSUANCE FOR TRICYCLE OPERATORS IN WINNEBA

November 23, 2023

The Effutu Municipal Assembly’s quest to regulate the activities and operations of Tricycle operators in the area has received a major boost after the Member of Parliament, Hon. Alexander Afenyo- Markin donated an unspecified amount of money for free licenses to be issued by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) to the operators in the Municipality on Thursday, November 23, 2023.
The initiative by the MP comes on the back of growing concerns for proper measures to regulate the activities and operations of tricycle operators within the Effutu Municipality. It is also to help end the canker where tricycle owners give their machines to minors to undertake economic activities.
Addressing the Tricycle operators on behalf of the Effutu Member of Parliament, the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Alhaji Zubairu Kassim urged them to ensure that the tricycles, either for commercial or private use, were registered by the Driver Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) to make them road-worthy.
He said that the astute lawyer and Member of Parliament for the Effutu constituency was optimistic that the initiative to obtain valid drivers’ license from the DVLA to qualify to operate would help to control the havoc being caused by the operations of Tricycle Riders who operate without licenses in the area.
Hon. Zubairu Kassim warned owners of commercial tricycles against engaging the services of minors (Boys) below 18 years as riders because such persons were not qualified by law to drive vehicles in the country.
He intimated that the Assembly would not countenance on blatant disregard for measures and routes approved for the operations of the tricycles in the Municipality to ensure the safety of road users as well as guarantee sanity on the road.
The DVLA Boss in the Effutu Municipality, Mr. Roland Dorkenoo on his part, noted that his outfit was by law mandated to ensure road safety which include the issuance of licenses to drivers and tricycle riders as well as vehicle registration and enforcement of road safety regulations in the area.
He lauded the Effutu MP and MCE for taken keen interest in road safety issues in the Municipality and admonished Tricycle operators to abide by the set regulations to avoid having issues with the law.
The Effutu MCE later toured the proposed duty post earmarked for the Customs Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS) to begin operations for vehicle inspection and registration in the Municipality to assess the state of the facility.
Hon. Zubairu Kassim pledged as a matter of urgency to commission renovation works on the facility and provide the necessary logistics needed for the smooth operation of the CEPS to partner with DVLA for the commencement of vehicle registration exercises in the Municipality.
