Eight new members of the Winneba Beach Assignment Enforcement Committee have been inaugurated to help in the management of fishing issues as well as work towards reducing negative fishing practices along the coast of Winneba.
The eight members drawn from the two main Asafo Groups in Winneba (Tuafo& Dentsefo) were sworn into office on Tuesday, November 14, 2023 at a short ceremony in Winneba. They Included Safohene Kobina Yaboe, Mr. Kow Andam, Opanyin Kofi Tawiah and Opanyin Kwame Dentsefo from the Dentsefo Asafo Company and Mr. Akwame Abakah, Mr. Kweku Ehum, Mr. Kweku Wirron and Mr. Kwesi Enum from the Tuafo Asafo Company.
The inaugurated members would add to the existing committee composition chaired by the Chief Fisherman with a mandate of assisting in promoting cooperation and coordination amongst the fisher folks as well as promoting proper fishing methods whiles working hard to discourage illegal fishing activities.
Inaugurating the Committee members, the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Alhaji Zubairu Kassim called for a concerted effort at working to achieve the goals set out for the committee.
Hon. Zubairu Kassim appealed for cooperation and coordination amongst members to aid the development of the fishing sector to improve the living standards of the people along the coast.
The Effutu MCE intimated that the Akuffo Addo led Government would continue to roll out fisher friendly policies to improve their catch to promote food security in the country.
The Chief Fisherman for Winneba, Nana Mbil, on his part praised the exemplary leadership offered by the Effutu Municipal Chief Executive and Member of Parliament for the realization of a united front to promote fishing in Effutu.
He urged the new members to be tolerant of opposing views and partner with the rest of the committee members to achieve the desired interest of the committee.
