As part of Government’s efforts at reducing the infrastructure deficit in the education sector as well as making education accessible to children of school going age across the country, the Effutu Municipal Assembly on Wednesday July 19, 2023 handed over 300 Metal Dual Desks to the Municipal Education Directorate for onward distribution to 17 beneficiary schools in the Municipality.
The number adds to an earlier presentation of 500 Metal dual desks made to the Effutu Municipal Education Directorate in 2022 to reduce the desk deficit in schools within the Municipality.
Delivering the Desks to the Municipal Education Director, the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Alhaji Zubairu Kassim, noted that the presentation was part of the Government and the Assembly’s core mandates towards ensuring the provision of a conducive environment for teaching and learning in the area.
He said that providing educational infrastructure would help improve academic work in the area and that the Assembly will not relent on its efforts at investing heavily in the education sector.
He said the Government’s commitment to the education sector was not in doubt and that with the support and prayers of citizens, government would provide more infrastructure needs of schools to address challenges impeding effective teaching and learning.
He said the Government of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo places great value on education expressing optimism that the 300 desks which will take care of 600 pupils would go a long way to tackle some of the educational challenges in the area.
Hon. Alhaji Zubairu Kassim did not mince words as he passionately appealed to authorities in beneficiary schools to supervise the use of the desks to serve future generations. He further stated that taking good care of the desks by sticking to a culture of maintenance will enable government channel resources into other sectors of the educational space for national development.
Mrs. Mabel Judith Micah, the out-going Municipal Director of Education, thanked the Assembly for the continuous support to the education sector.
According to her the provision of the Dual Desks will go a long way to supplement what was already in the system and expressed the hope that more of such presentations and other support for the enhancement of teaching and learning will be provided to augment what is available to the directorate.
She pledged on behalf of the Ghana Education Service to monitor and ensure that the desks serve the purpose for which they were provided as well as maintain them to prolong their life span.
