The Effutu Municipal Assembly on Friday, June 9, 2023 joined the Forestry Commission at Winneba to plant 850 seedlings to mark the 2023 Green Ghana Day in the Municipality.
The seedlings made up of 500 white mangrove, 200 mahogany and 150 cassia plants were planted at the Winneba Ramsar site area along the banks of the Muni Lagoon to support the central government’s agenda of greening Ghana to preserve the ecosystem to aid the fight against the negative effects of climate change.
The Effutu Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Alhaji Zubairu Kassim, led the exercise which was well patronized by staff of the Assembly and the security services as well as Assembly Members and residents in the Municipality.
Addressing the participants after the tree planting exercise which was under the theme “Our Forest Our Health”, Hon. Alhaji Zubairu Kassim, encouraged all citizens to cultivate the habit of planting more trees in their respective communities and environments for protection as well as create a future for the Municipality and the country as a whole.
He commended the participants for the enthusiasm exhibited in aiding government in the planting of the seedlings in the Municipality for a better future.
Hon. Zubairu Kassim appealed for the concerted efforts of all stakeholders in the Municipality, especially the media at sensitizing the public against fire outbreaks and the need to desist from cutting down trees unlawfully. He stated that plants produce natural oxygen needed for humans to leave healthy lives to increase their longevity of stay on earth.
He observed that ensuring the greening and vegetation of the environment helps to protect and prevent perennial floods in the society.
