Twenty- two teachers and non- teaching staff of the Effutu Municipal Education Directorate of the Ghana Education Service were on Monday, May 29, 2023, recognized with special awards for their commitment and dedication to duty in the 2023/2023 administrative year.
The 3RD Edition of the Effutu Teachers Awards scheme initiated and sponsored by the Member of Parliament for the Effutu Constituency and Deputy Majority Leader of Ghana’s 8th Parliament, Hon. Alexander Afenyo- Markin was under the theme “Teacher Motivation in Ensuring Positive Learning Outcomes”.
The awardees ranging from best teachers with first and second runner-ups in categories including Kindergarten, Primary and Junior High Schools took home various prizes including refrigerators, Gas Oven machines, Sound Bar players and citations with others taking cash prizes all sponsored by the Effutu Member of Parliament.
In her welcome address, the Effutu Municipal Director of Education, Mrs. Judith Mabel Micah, lauded the contribution of Hon. Afenyo-Markin in motivating teachers to deliver on their mandate of realizing the goals of education in the Municipality.
Mrs. Judith Micah noted that teachers in the Municipality have benefitted in diverse ways from the benevolence of the MP through the Teachers Fund set up by the MP to support teachers who seek further studies as well as the One Teacher One Laptop Programme which has provided Laptops for all teaching and non- teaching staff of the Directorate all in a bid to improve quality teaching and learning in the Municipality.
The Member of Parliament for the Effutu Constituency, Hon. Alexander Afenyo- Markin whiles addressing the gathering who were mostly teachers announced that Winneba has won the confidence of the international community and has been chosen for the second time to host this year’s ECOWAS Summit slated for September 2023.
He said that his leadership as Member of Parliament aims at making the Municipality a major business giant in the region and the country as a whole with the institutionalization of structures and programmes geared towards achieving the Effutu Dream.
Hon. Afenyo- Markin whiles bemoaning the look warm attitude of some citizens of the land in building their capacities to contribute meaningfully to national development called for a concerted effort of all to change the orientation of the citizenry to embrace the wind of change needed for personal and national development.
He congratulated the teachers in the Municipality for continuously putting in much efforts to guide the school children in the area achieve the goals of education to join the direction of development of the Effutu Municipality.
