EMA WELCOMES CHARLOTTESVILLE DELEGATION TO WINNEBA

The Effutu Municipal Assembly on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, welcomed a delegation from the Charlottesville Sister-City Foundation from the USA who are in the Municipality as part of an eleven-day visit to Ghana to among other things learn and observe the rich cultural heritage of
the Effutu people. The delegation, led by the Executive Director of the Charlottesville- Winneba Sister- City Foundation and former Mayor of Charlottesville, Virginia, David Norris is made up of medical
practitioners, retirees, social workers and educationists.
The visit is also to foster the continuous operationalization of a memorandum of understanding signed between Charlottesville City and the Effutu Municipal Assembly to exchange programmes of mutual interest.
Speaking in a meeting to welcome the delegation at the office of the Effutu Municipal Chief Executive, the former Mayor David Norris expressed the excitement of the team for the warm
reception offered them by the Assembly and hoped to explore the area well to benefit the two cities.
According to him the delegation in its quest to deepen the relationship with the Effutu people will join the people in the celebration of the 2023 Aboakyir Festival to enable them appreciate the culture and tradition of their local partners.
The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Alhaji Zubairu Kassim, in an address, envisaged that the occasion of the Aboakyir Festival, like previous years will continue to connect the two Sister-Cities to come together to showcase the rich cultural heritage of the Effutu people as well as renew their commitment to promoting development, friendship and cooperation.
He expressed the appreciation of the Effutu people to the Charlottesville group from the USA for the numerous donations including a Fire Engine to the Winneba Fire Station and the medical supplies worth over $ 500,000 presented recently to the Winneba Municipal Hospital which
according to him have greatly enhanced the capacity of the Assembly to respond to emergencies and deliver quality services to the people in that regard.
Hon. Zubairu Kassim appealed for more logistic support including computers, printers, and photocopiers from the group to help facilitate the operations and activities of the Assembly to
position it to deliver on its core mandate of extending development to the people in the Municipality.
