The Effutu Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Alhaji Zubairu Kassim, on Tthursday, March 30, 2023 inspected a construction work of the restoration of a backfilling behind the retaining wall at a section of the constructed Sankor road in the Winneba Township.
The retaining wall which protects a section of the Sankor road at a height of 2.5m was being washed away by rain water collected from the catchment area including Kwedrum Osakem community and run behind the retaining wall along the road and discharged through an existing cross culvert into the sea.
The Municipal Assembly through the Department of Urban roads acted in a swift manner to fix the threatening situation to protect the lives of the road users of the area, as the running water which had washed out all the back filling and caused erosion behind the retaining wall resulting in the caving-in of a section of the road pavement.
Hon. Zubairu Kassim, leading the inspection of the construction of a 201m of 0.9m U-drain behind the retaining wall to serve as both toe and storm drain to collect and discharge the running water from the adjoining community through an existing culvert into the sea noted that routine inspection was crucial in each and every part of construction to guarantee that work was being executed as planned with standard requirement and regulations.
He encouraged the contractor to work assiduously to complete the project on schedule to avoid any disaster in the area.
The Municipal chief Executive later inspected a recently constructed single 1200MM Culvert on the Bodomeyinsem stream to connect one part of the Sankor community to the other.
The Community had long yearned for the culvert bridge and praised Hon. Alhaji Zubairu Kassim and the Effutu Municipal Assembly for coming to their aid after they called on the Assembly for their support in fixing the bridge which had cut off one part of the community from the other.
With the Municipal Chief Executive were the Assembly Member for the Sankor Electoral Area, Hon. Abdulai Yakubu, the Municipal Urban Roads Engineer, Mr. Eric A. Akwei, the Municipal Works Engineer, Mr. Emmanuel Yeboah, the Municipal Planning Officer, Mr. Abubakar Saddique Addam and the Municipal Information Officer, Mr. Charles Baah Aboagye.
