The Effutu Municipal Assembly on Wednesday, March 29, 2023, held its First Ordinary Meeting of the Fourth Session of the Seventh Assembly at the Municipal Assembly Conference Hall to among other things consider motions brought before it by some members of the house as well as discuss the Municipal Chief Executive’s Sessional Address and the report from the Executive Committee of the Assembly.
In accordance with the Local Government Act 936 of 2016 which enjoins District Assemblies to hold ordinary assembly meetings in each quarter of the financial year, the Effutu Municipal Assembly also treated the previous minutes with reading, correction and adoption as well as matters arising out of the previous meeting.
Hon. Elizabeth Awo Senah, the Presiding Member charged members to contribute meaningfully to the issues on the order paper to enrich the decisions of the Assembly to impact on the lives of the electorates in their respective electoral areas.
According to her the performance of duties by members of the Assembly was essential for the growth and development of the Municipality.
As the District Level Elections draw closer later in the year, Hon. Awo Senah tasked the Assemblies to plan towards attracting more developmental projects to their respective electoral areas to continue to win the trust and confidence of the electorates.
The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Alhaji Zubairu Kassim, in his presentation of the Sessional Address touted the gains made by the Assembly in the various sectors of the economy.
Hon. Alhaji Zubairu Kassim noted that every child in the Municipality reserves the right to access quality education for personal development to enable him contribute meaningfully to nation building. This he said could be achieved through improving educational infrastructure, academic supervision, and enhancing the capacity of teachers coupled with proper parenting.
He said that the Assembly under his stewardship, heeded to calls from Ghana Education Service for assistance and handed over a newly constructed 2-Unit Kindergarten block with a rainstorm, office space, dining area and other ancillary facilities to the Unipra South C Basic School through the Effutu G.E.S as well as the supply of 200 Dual Desks including hexagonal tables and chairs to the newly constructed Ayirebi Yankson Basic School in Winneba to take care of the furniture needs of the school.
In the area of health, the Effutu MCE lauded the Member of Parliament for the area, Hon. Alexander Afenyo-Markin for sponsoring a free eye screening exercise for residents in all the eighteen (18) electoral areas who were suffering from eye related ailments as well as assisting them with free medication and eye glasses given to those with mild conditions, whiles those with serious conditions were offered surgical operations to correct the defects.
Hon. Zubairu Kassim mentioned the gains made in the provision of adequate security for the residents of the Municipality with a call on all to be vigilant and report to the security agencies any suspected situation within their jurisdiction that tend to destabilize the peace with the likelihood of causing harm to life and property.
