The Effutu Municipal Capital of Winneba on Monday, March 6, 2023, reignited the euphoria that greeted the Black Star Square on the eve of Ghana’s Independence in 1957 as they joined the rest of the country and revisited the events leading to the attainment of the country’s independence as the people marked the 66th Independence Day Celebration at the Presbyterian School Park at Winneba.
The celebration which was under the theme: “Our Unity; Our Strength; Our Purpose”, was honoured by the Paramount Chief of the Effutu Traditional area, Nenyi Ghartey VII as well as scores of people from Winneba and its environs including expatriates who gathered to witness the event of school children drawn from thirty six basic and second cycle schools within the Municipality.
On parade at the Presbyterian School Park in Winneba were 1440 students and 144 teachers drawn from twenty (20) public schools, ten (10) private schools and six (6) senior high schools in the Effutu Municipality.
The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Alhaji Zubairu Kassim, in an address urged Ghanaians to uphold the values of the democracy, freedom and justice fought for by the founders of the nation Ghana with a call on Ghanaians to see their differences in thoughts and believes as a source of strength and not a weakness.
He noted that Ghanaians should continue to see themselves as a proud people with reminiscence about the toils and tears that greeted the struggle making the country as the first to break free from colonial rule in sub- Saharan Africa.
Hon. Zuabiru Kassim, said that the country since independence has progressed peacefully, witnessing a politically stable environment since the Fourth Republic, socially relevant and an economically strong atmosphere needed to drive her development.
The Effutu MCE intimated that, nation building was a collective enterprise that required the responsibility of all to have a collective commitment and targeted efforts towards the attainment of her aspirations and called on all to use the remembrance of the historic day to do more for the country and offering the support needed by the Government of the day to execute its development agenda to affect the lives of its population.
He was optimistic that the country would bounce back strongly to relief economic hardships from the citizenry
A match past of school children climaxed the celebration with deserving schools receiving awards on performances in various categories including primary, senior high and senior high categories.
