WINNEBA MARKS 2022 MASQUERADE FESTIVAL

Hundreds of people from all parts of the world joined residents of the Effutu Municipality and its environs on Monday, January 2, 2023 to celebrate the annual Masquerade Festival, popularly known as “Fancy Dress’

The annual Masquerade festival which seeks to promote tourism and culture is part of the culture and passion of the people of Winneba and has been held for several decades. It involves the use of masks to disguise their identity during parade and other festive ceremonies, often using expensive, elegant, historical or fanciful costumes.

This year’s celebration saw the various groupings coming together to display their respective skills in dancing in a competition that fuels the creativity that holds the festival together as the entire town was split along these troupe lines, with each one attempting to outwit the other with the most bizarre and riveting costumes, stunts, songs and dances.

In an address, the Member of Parliament for Effutu constituency, Hon. Afenyo Markin, lauded the organizers of the event for putting things together to ensure a successful celebration.

He said that the Government through the Ministry of Tourism and the Ghana Tourism Authority has made the Winneba Masquerade Festival one of the accepted events for the Yuletide to woe investors from other parts of the world. This he said requires that the people come together to shun disagreements and litigations that have the tendency to mar the beauty of the organization of the event in the area.

Hon. Afenyo- Markin, urged the people of Winneba to use the celebration of the day to promote the peace and unity needed to drive in investors for development. He charged the youth to support the development agenda of the Government of the New Patriotic Party.

He assured the youth of his commitment at getting employment for his teaming constituents who have over the years shown the zeal of offering quality employable skills needed to propel the nation to realize its development goals. 

The event which was peacefully organized through the able direction of the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Alhaji Zubairu Kassim, saw all five groups including; Noble’s No. 5, Egyaa No. 2, Tumus No. 3, Red Cross No. 4 and Royals No. 5, honouring this year’s event.
