EFFUTU MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY ACCOUNTS FOR ITS STEWARDSHIP

The leadership of the Effutu Municipal Assembly have been commended for their sterling leadership in extending development to the communities in the Municipality as well as opening up for the input of the citizenry to promote participatory democracy in the area.

They have also won the admiration of the residents for allowing for criticisms from the general public regarding the operations and directions in the management of the Municipality. 

At a Town Hall Meeting in Winneba on Thursday, December 15, 2022 scores of residents who patronized the event lauded the Assembly for intensifying the rolling out of town hall meetings for residents to help improve local governance.

They explained that the town hall meetings in the communities enable the duty bearers to expound the assembly and government’s works and policies better to the understanding and appreciation of residents.

The meeting was to assess the performance of the Assembly and the Heads of Departments on the rolled out programs and policies in the 2022 financial and administrative year to improve the lives of residents.

It was also to afford the residents, including chiefs, clergy, and the youth, the opportunity to ask relevant questions for clarity on issues and make recommendations on projects and policies to help improve local governance.

The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Alhaji Zubairu Kassim, noted in his address that team work coupled with cordial relationship with the workers at all levels, was the key driving development in the Municipality.

Speaking on accountability being an essential ingredient in promoting a successful local governance system in any developed economy, Hon. Alhaji Zubairu Kassim, said that it was necessary for the Assembly to communicate its operations appropriately to the stakeholders to ensure that its mandate enshrined in the Local Government Act was well served.

He said that building a strong relationship with all stakeholders through such platforms brings both Government and the populace together to reason on issues that promote effective service delivery.

Hon. Zubairu Kassim noted that accomplishing the “EFFUTU DREAM” has been the motivating drivers to the many projects and activities embarked upon by the Assembly in 2022. He hinted of the Assembly’s plans at implementing more development programs in 2023 to augment the good works of the Member of Parliament for the area, Hon. Alexander Afenyo- Makin, who doubles as the Deputy Majority Leader of Ghana’s 8th Parliament.

The Municipal Planning Officer, Mr. Abubakar Saddique Adam and the Municipal Budget Analyst, Mr. Stephen Kyei took turns to produce power point presentations on the successes chalked in areas of education, health, agriculture, general infrastructure among others including the fiscal direction of the Assembly in the 2023 Financial Year with a call on the participants, to serve as ambassadors  to cascade the message further down to the sub-district levels, for effective dissemination of Government Policies, Programs and Achievement.

Pictorial Presentations on the various Central Government Projects as well as projects of the Member of Parliament for the 2022 administrative year were exhibited to the gathered crowd who responded with continuous applauds while urging for more development in the ensuing year. 

The Chairman for the occasion, Mr. Ato Ghartey on his part indicated that the staging of Town Hall Meetings was crucial in establishing ultimate rapport between the Municipal Assembly and residents and therefore urged the authorities to attach importance to such an exercise.
