The Municipal Chief Executive of the Effutu Municipal Assembly Hon. Alhaji Zubairu Kassim, on Saturday October 8, 2022 joined the chiefs and people of Woarabeba, a community in the Effutu Municipal Assembly to celebrate this year’s “ TWEII AFAHYɛ (FESTIVAL)”
Tweii Afahyɛ is a Traditional festival organized annually by the Traditional Leadership of Woarabeba with the main aim of recognizing the role the ancestors played in promoting Beach Scene Fishing (TWEII) which is the life wire that binds the people together.
The Festival which was clouded by some memorable and historic events saw the MCE of Effutu Alhaji Zubairu Kassim express his sincere thanks to the elders of the Woarabeba community for the peaceful co-existence within the rank and file of the community, saying “in unity lies strength”.
He eulogized the contribution of Opanyin Obamba who against all odds of the community members went into Beach Scene Fishing which was a novelty in the area and succeeded to the surprise of many at the time. He said that Opanyin Obamba later moved and founded a new community called Woarabeba which has since survived on Beach Scene Fishing otherwise known as “Tweii”.
Hon. Zubairu Kassim applauded the people of Woarabeba for employing safety fishing regulations by desisting from engaging in light fishing and the use chemicals such as DDT and powdered soap as well as all forms of prohibited processes of fishing.
The MCE assured the people of Government’s continuous support in bringing infrastructural development to the area despite the non- availability of lands.
He charged the youth in the area to take advantage of the flagship Youth Entrepreneurship and Employment Programme introduced by the Government and spearheaded by the Ghana Enterprise Agency to assess trainings and start-up Grants to grow their businesses.
Hon. Zubairu Kassim noted that the Business Advisory Centre (BAC) of the Effutu Municipal Assembly is always opened to assist the youth to register for this golden opportunity of being self-reliant through entrepreneurship.
