CHARLOTTESVILLE SISTER CITY GROUP DONATES FIRE TENDER TO EFFUTU GHANA NATIONAL FIRE SERVICE.

The Municipal Chief Executive for the Effutu Municipal Assembly, Hon. Alhaji Zubairu Kassim, on Friday September 2, 2022 joined the Paramount Chief of the Effutu Traditional Area Nenyi Ghartey VII and representatives of the Charlottesville Sister-City group from Virginia, USA for the commissioning of a Pierce Quantum Fire Engine (Truck) donated to the Ghana National Fire Service in the Effutu Municipal Assembly by the Charlottesville Sister- City Group.

The donation of the truck which has an estimated value of $25,000 by the Charlottesville Sister-City Group was in honor of a strong and abiding friendship between the Sister-Cities of Charlottesville, USA and Winneba, Ghana and is expected to augment the firefighting equipment available the Ghana National Fire Service in Winneba.

In an address to present the Fire Tender, the President of the Charlottes- Winneba Foundation who represented the Charlottesville Sister-City Group of the USA, Nana Akyeampong- Ghartey, noted that the donation has been made possible as a result of the partnership between the two groups dating back from 2010. He said that the partnership has caused the Charlottesville Group in Virginia, USA to link all Departments in Winneba including the Ghana National Fire Service, the Police Service and the Prisons Service with Departments in Charlottesville, USA to benefit from exchange programs in the interest of the two countries.  Nana Akyeampong- Ghartey applauded the sterling leadership of the Effutu Municipal Chief

Executive, Alhaji Zubairu Kassim, in embracing the Sister-City relationship by strengthening the partnership to extend benefits to the city of Winneba.

The Municipal Chief Executive, Alhaji Zubairu Kassim, on his part, noted that the partnership has strengthened the bond between Winneba and Charlottesville to explore the origins of slavery and the history of the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade.  According to him it has also enriched the educational, cultural, social and economic lives of both cities through the benevolent acts such as the donation of the Pierce Quantum Fire Tender.

Hon. Zubairu Kassim, noted that the truck (Tender) which has been named after one of Winneba’s greatest Kings, “King Ghartey” will go a long way to improve the firefighting services of the Municipal Fire station not only in Effutu but its neighboring communities and charged the Ghana National Fire Service in Winneba to make judicious use of the fire tender by maintaining it periodically for a greater output.

When he mounted the podium, the Paramount Chief of the Effutu Municipal Area, Nenyi Ghartey VII, called for the establishment of a Fire Officers Foundation to cater for fire officers who get injured in the line of duty. This he said will motivate them to continue to selflessly serve the country at the peril of their lives.

While expressing the appreciation of the people of the Effutu Traditional Area to the Charlottesville Group of the United States of America, Nenyi Ghartey VII appealed to all illustrious citizens of Winneba to support the Ghana National Fire Service to enable them offer the needed services to the Effutu people.
