A team from the University of Virginia in the USA on Tuesday, August 23, 2022 paid a courtesy call on the Municipal Chief Executive for the Effutu Municipal Assembly, Hon. Alhaji Zubairu Kassim at his office in Winneba.
The team led by Mr. Baiden Amissah and Madam Nancy Oakland discussed among other things the beautification project yet to commenced at the Winneba Ramsar Site as well as other areas of interest to both Winneba and Charlottesville, Virginia.
The State-of-the-art project, to be sited around the Muni Lagoon area when completed will have a Muni Environmental Educational Centre with public, academic and research spaces as well as an agricultural experimental field for the preservation of the Muni Lagoon for generations yet unborn.
The project which will be financed by the Charlottesville Sister-City group based in the USA is expected to be a model partnership for teaching, research and community engagement.
Speaking at the Meeting the Municipal Chief Executive, Alhaji Zubairu Kassim, recounted the benefits the partnership of the Assembly with its counterparts from Charlottesville has brought to the Municipality over the past years as they have always keen on supporting the developmental drive of the area.
He noted that the beautification project when completed will drive in tourists and investors from far and near to shore up the Assembly’s revenue generation drive. Hon. Zubairu Kassim, said that the Assembly will continue to deepen the relationship with Charlottesville to benefit both countries. The MCE appealed to the University of Virginia to continue to partner with the Effutu Municipal Assembly and assist in all forms of aiding to extend development to the people.
On his part, Mr. Baiden Ammissah, who led the delegation, thanked the Effutu Municipal Assembly for its continuous hospitality towards the sister city partners from Charlottesville.
He assured the MCE that the group will do all within its powers to boost investment and tourism confidence of their people in the Effutu Municipality of the Central Region of Ghana.
