The Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital in the Effutu Municipality of the Central Region, has marked a decade of quality health care delivery in Ghana on the theme “Celebrating 10 Years of Setting the Pace- Health Care Excellence Through Innovations” with a commendation of staff of the hospital for their hard work and dedication to duty.
Dr. George Kwame Prah, the Medical Director of the Hospital, said the diligence and dedication of the past and present workforce has helped in the hospital’s quest to fulfilling its mandate of attending to accident and emergency situations to save lives.
Special admiration was made on the selfless service rendered by health staff of the hospital during the peak of the Covid 19 pandemic at the peril of their lives.
According to him the tremendous resilience of the workforce had helped to surmount most of the challenges encountered in the last ten years of operation in the area and called on all stakeholders to support the hospital to maintain its status as the number one accident centre in the region.
Expressing his gratitude and that of the hospital’s management and staff to the Government and other stakeholders including NGOs and especially the Member of Parliament for the area, Hon. Alexander Afenyo Markin for their immense contributions for the successes chalked, Dr. Prah asked for the continued collaborative support from all well-meaning citizens and institutions in
Effutu and its surrounding communities to enhance the positive impact the facility has had on health care delivery in the Central Region and Ghana as a whole.
Hon. Justina Marigold Assan, the Central Regional Minister, who was the Guest of Honour, expressed joy over the successes chalked by the hospital since it became operational in 2012.
She noted that in 2015 the Central Regional Health Management team after a careful study in consideration of equity, cost –effectiveness, strategic location as well as other comparative advantage factors, selected the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital among three (3) others to serve as the interim Central Regional Hospital until a fully -fledged ultra- modern regional referral hospital was in place.
Hon. Mrs. Marigold Assan continued that the decision was timely and commendable considering the strategic location of the hospital with a state of the art equipment to provide emergency health treatment to unfortunate victims of all forms of accidents including those that occur on the Accra-Takoradi Highway.
The Minister recounted the importance of the hospital to the region and country’s health sector and challenged the management and staff of the facility to take stock of the achievement and shortcomings in the past decade to aid the provision of quality health care to the people.
On his part, the Municipal Chief Executive for the Effutu Municipal Assembly, Hon. Alhaji Zubairu Kassim, who doubled as the Chairman for the occasion assured the hospital of the Assembly’s continues support and collaboration to addressing the challenges of the facility to enable it offer the needed health care assistance for which it was established.
He recounted the contribution of the Member of Parliament for the area in establishment and growth of the Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba and charged health staff of the facility to be guided by the professional tenets of the nursing profession in administering health care delivery to patients.
Awards were given to past and present staff who have excelled in their various fields of operation since the hospital was commissioned in 2012.
