RIGHTS GO WITH RESPONSIBILITIES – MCE

Hon. Alhaji Zubairu Kassim, the Municipal Chief Executive for the Effutu Municipal Assembly has advised pupils of the St. Paul’s Methodist Preparatory School in Winneba to balance their rights with responsibilities.

He said rights and responsibilities which could best be said to be intertwine must go hand in hand if people had intentions to protect and defend Ghana’s Constitution for the good of all.

Hon. Zubairu Kassim made the call during an interaction with the pupils as part of this year’s celebration of the Citizenship Week in the Effutu Municipality. He noted that just as in a give-and-take fashion, a citizen insisting on his/her right to life must do well to safeguard the life of another.

He cautioned Ghanaians to report suspicious characters to the security agencies to avert threats of terrorist activities creeping into the West African Sub-Region, stressing on the “See Something Say Something” Campaign launched by the Ministry of Information Touching on the need for citizens to continue to demand for respect for human rights and freedoms as a Ghanaians, he charged Ghanaians to reciprocate that by equally respecting the rights of others with a strong feeling of responsibility to the nation.

Citing Article 41 of the constitution which talks about the enjoyment of rights and freedoms being inseparable from the performance of duties and obligations, the Effutu MCE urged the pupils to impress upon their parents to pay their tax obligations to the state to enable the Government extend development to many areas of the country.

As part of the 2022 Citizenship Week celebration, the NCCE in Effutu has been engaging young people in some selected schools in Winneba to inculcate in them the spirit of oneness, Ghanaian values and patriotism.

The Municipal Director for the NCCE in the Effutu Municipality, Mr. Joseph Abban, charged the pupils to serve as agents everywhere for a united Ghana. He made a clarion call on all Ghanaians to place premium on knowing their civic rights and responsibilities thereby committing themselves to development of Ghana.
