The Effutu Municipal Assembly held its First Ordinary Meeting of the Third Session of the Seventh Assembly on Tuesday May 24, 2022 at the Municipal Conference hall.
The General Assembly which is the highest decision-making body of the municipality has a core mandate to perform deliberative, legislative, and executive functions under the leadership of the Presiding Member.
The meeting was well attended by various stakeholders including Assembly Members, Heads of Decentralized and Non-Decentralized Departments as well as Heads of the various Security Agencies in the Municipality.
Addressing the House, the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Alhaji Zubairu Kassim, assured members that the security of the area remained top on his agenda, urging all to support the police and other security agencies with information to clamp down on the nefarious activities of criminals in the Municipality.
He said that the Municipal Security Committee under his leadership will not relent in its efforts at providing reliable security for the people of Effutu and its environs.
Touting the gains made in the provision of security within the Municipality, Hon. Zubairu Kassim stated that the Municipality has for the first time in so many years observed a successful incident free Aboakyir Festival. This he attributed to the hard work of the Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) and some notable stakeholders in the area including the Effutu Traditional Council.
He announced that the Police has tightened security at some identified hotspots leading to the arrest and prosecution of some suspected criminals in the area.
The Assembly presided over by Hon. Elizabeth Sena legislated on issues including intensifying monitoring activities by security agencies, improving health conditions and sanitation as well as enriching administrative activities and initiation of new developmental projects and monitoring of the ongoing ones.
The Assembly also deliberated on increasing revenue generation, measures towards the prevention of natural disasters, and improving the educational system to help improve the literacy rate and development within the municipality. The Municipal Information Officer, Mr. Charles Baah Aboagye on his part sensitized the house on the Electronic Transfer Levy (E-Levey) which was operationalized on May 1, 2022 across the country.
He took them through the essence of the Levy, the rate charged for executing electronic money transfers, services that are charged by the levy as well as the exemptions from payment of E-Levy.
