EFFUTU MCE PLEDGES SUPPORT FOR TVET EDUCATION

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Effutu, Alhaji Zubairu Kassim, has pledged the resolve of the Effutu Municipal Assembly to equip the Winneba National Vocational Training Institute with adequate school desks to help address the challenges the school faces in acquiring desks for the growing population of the school for effective technical and vocational education in the area.

He said that the desks when provided will form part of measures to create a smooth academic environment for the trainees to be endowed with practical skills.

Hon. Alhaji Zubairu Kassim, made the pledge when the Management and First year students of the school paid a courtesy call on him at the Assembly on Tuesday May 17, 2022.

He charged the fresh students take advantage of the Free Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) initiative introduced by the government and operationalized this academic year and take their studies seriously to enable them realize their potentials to be useful citizens in future

With the operationalization of the Free TVET education, the MCE noted that all fresh students who have opted to pursue TVET at any government-approved senior high school (SHS), senior high technical school (SHTS) or any TVET institution are fortunate to begin enjoying all the benefits of the free SHS initiative. Hon. Zubairu Kassim also encouraged students to use their leisure times to patronize the artisan village at Winneba Junction for more practical studies to position them well for the job market in the future, adding that more practical works will provide the requisite skills and experience needed to create employment opportunities for them after school to better their living conditions. 

Assuring the school of the continuous support of the Assembly, Hon. Zubairu Kassim noted that his outfit had taken notice of the furniture deficit of the school with plans underway to help mitigate the challenges to ensure smooth and effective teaching and learning.

He emphasized that education was a topmost priority of the Nana Akufo-Addo-led government and that the provision of the appropriate infrastructure was necessary to ensuring quality basic education for all children to provide the needed human resource base needed to drive the nation’s industrialization agenda thereby creating employment opportunities to reduce the unemployment situation in the country.

The Effutu MCE continued that the driving force of investment opportunities to shore up a country’s development is an educated population with skills training as the pillar of making it a manufacturing giant to enable her compete with other developing nations.

He said that the Assembly was ready to assist in all forms to make the TVET education in the Municipality realize its objectives of producing the skillfully trained youth needed to build the local economy and the nation as a whole.

He advised parents and guardians to desist from acts that discourage children who opt for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

They have also been admonished to eschew the erroneous misconception regarding TVET as the preserve of the academically weak students but instead support and allow all children to pursue their dreams, particularly females who desired TVET.
