EFFUTU MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY HOLDS A TOWN HALL MEETING

As part of its efforts at promoting participatory democracy and accountability, the Effutu Municipal Assembly, on Tuesday March 29, 2022 held its first town hall meeting for the year at the Pentecost Church (Hallelujah Temple) in Winneba.

The meeting was to take stock of the activities and projects undertaken by the assembly for the 2021 Financial Year and to also afford the community the opportunity to engage the assembly Officials on the Assembly Public Financial Management matters and service delivery outcomes and also to present to the Stakeholders the programs and projects the assembly intends to undertake in 2022.

It also focused on how to improve on the Assembly’s revenue mobilization, general sanitation, educational infrastructure for quality education and the general security in the municipality as well as creating job opportunities for the people of Effutu, especially the youth and women.

In his address, the MCE for the Effutu Municipal Assembly Hon. Alhaji Zubairu Kassim said that the Assembly was obliged to give a detailed account of its stewardship to the people of the Municipality and solicit their input on the developmental agenda of managers of Effutu.

He appealed to the people to support the work of the Assembly by paying their taxes to enable the Assembly realize its revenue targets to meet its development needs.

Hon. Zubairu Kassim bemoaned the practice of indiscriminate disposal of waste, non-payment of property rates, business operating permits, allocation of building permits and building at unauthorized areas as some of the major challenges militating against the programs and activities of the assembly and called on the citizens to honour their responsibilities to move the assembly forward.

On the security situation in the Municipality, Hon. Zubairu Kassim assured the people that the Assembly was taking no chances at ensuring total security by collaborating with the security agencies and offering them the necessary support needed to flush out criminals from the area.

On his part the Paramount Chief of the Effutu Traditional Area, Nenyi Gharty VII, who doubled as the Chairman for the occasion charged the Assembly to adopt innovative means to digitalize its revenue mobilization operations to meet its revenue targets for the development of the Municipality.

Nenyi Ghartey VII, adding his voice to the general security situation in the area charged the Assembly Members to establish volunteer groups in the respective electoral areas to augment the security provided by the Police.

The Municipal Budget Officer, Mr. Stephen Kyei, delivered a power point presentation on development projects undertaking by the Assembly and enumerated a number of plans to be carried out in the 2022 financial.
