DEPUTY LOCAL GOVERNMENT MINISTER PAYS A WORKING VISIT TO EFFUTU MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY

The Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Hon. Osei Bonsu Amoah on Monday March 21st, 2022 paid an unannounced working visit to the Effutu Municipal Assembly.

The visit was to enable the Minister acquaint himself with the operations and challenges facing the staff of the assembly. He received progress reports as well as the challenges facing the individual Departments in the assembly and lauded the staff for their commitment and delivery to the realization of Government business in the Municipality.

Hon. Amoah advised staff of the Assembly to acquaint themselves with the new Local Government Act and improve on their reporting style to reduce the instances where officers are queried for wrongful reporting. He charged the management and staff of the Assembly to strengthen internal audit mechanisms to sanitize the system so as not to attract audit queries from the Auditor General in his reports.

Hon. Osei Bonsu Amoah urged the Assembly to improve on its revenue mobilization operations to shore up its internally generated fund (IGF) activities to aid the pace of development in the area.

The Minister who expressed his delight at the high attendance of staff to work on a Monday morning  appealed to staff of other assemblies in the country to emulate the good works of the Effutu Municipal Assembly to supplement government’s effort in achieving the ‘Ghana beyond Aid Agenda’.

The Municipal Chief Executive of the Effutu Municipal Assembly, Hon. Alhaiji Zubairu Kassim thanked the minister for the visit and promised to exercise his mandate with the staff of the Assembly to ensure the assembly becomes the focal point of progress adding that the assembly would not relent on its efforts at ensuring inclusive participation in national development.

On the numerous challenges enumerated by most of the Departmental Heads of the Assembly which ranged from inadequate funds, mobility, staffing and accommodation, Hon.   Zubairu Kassim announced that the Common Fund Secretariat has responded favorably to the request of the Assembly to make funds available to have the Assembly block complex completed to ease the accommodation challenges facing the Government Departments within the Effutu Municipality.
