A colorful sod-cutting ceremony has been held for the commencement of work for an ultramodern Astro-Turf Football pitch at Nsuekyir, a community in the Effutu Municipality.
The edifice is being sponsored by Ghana Gas Company Limited as part of its programs intended to provide modern sports facilities to help produce future football stars for the country.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Ahaji Zubairu Kassim expressed the profound appreciation of the people of Effutu to the Government of Ghana and Ghana Gas Company Limited for responding adequately to the request by the Member of Parliament, Hon Alexander Afenyo Markin for the construction of a modern day artificial pitch for the residents of the area.
According to him the promotion of sporting activities, especially football in Effutu, is dear to the heart of the Effutu MP, adding that the Municipal Assembly will continue to support the Government and MP’s dream of youth development through sports. He noted that the construction of the impending facility was timely and has the potential of attracting big teams including the National teams to adopt the facility for their training and matches, a situation he said has the propensity of creating employment for the people who would be selling around to boost the local economy.
Hon. Zubairu Kassim described the facility as having arrived at a timely period and urged the youth to take advantage of the opportunities it would provide to train and sharpen their talents in football for football stars to be produced from the Municipality.
Football, he said, has become a lucrative business across the world, therefore it was important that the park was redeveloped into a modern facility to produce soccer stars.
He called for support from opinion leaders and residents especially those who would be engaged by the contractor to work diligently for a successful execution of the project.
Speaking on behalf of the Contractors, Best Limited and Ghana Gas, Nana Yaw Antwi, said the Effutu lawmaker solicited for support from Ghana Gas Company to construct the park, which would help to improve sports.
According to him, the construction of the astro turf formed part of Ghana Gas’ corporate social responsibilities, pointing out that the park would help produce soccer stars.
He noted that the park which will be completed within six months will comprise of an Artificial Pitch, Flood lights and Panel Mesh Fencing.
Nana Yaw Antwi, touting the credentials and signature works of Best Limited in Astro Turf construction in the country assured that the company would carry out a professional work within the stipulated time.
