An extraordinary Municipal/ District Security Council meeting of five Municipal and District Assemblies in the Central Region has been held on Monday January 24, 2022 at Winneba at the instance of the Municipal Chief Executive for the Effutu Municipal Assembly, Alhaji Zubairu Kassim to discuss the recent spate of armed robberies on the Kasoa- Apam Highway.
The Five Assemblies at the meeting resolved to partner with the police to intensify road patrols on the highway to end the increasing number of highway robberies on the Kasoa- Apam stretch in recent times.
The Kasoa-Apam stretch alone has recorded six major robberies in January 2022 within a spate of one week raising concerns about the need for the intensification of the security on the road.
The Chief Executives of the five Assemblies which were made up of the Effutu Municipal Assembly, Agona East District Assembly, Agona West Municipal Assembly, Gomoa East and Gomoa West District Assemblies met with the security heads to map up strategies to end the carnage on the road.
In an interview with the media after the meeting the Municipal Chief Executive of the Effutu Municipal Assembly who chaired the meeting said that Assemblies have resolved to provide the police with all the logistics needed to fight the robberies on the road.
Hon. Zubairu Kassim told the media that the Member of Parliament for the Effutu constituency Hon. Alexander Afenyo-Markin has pledged to support the police with two Pick-Up vehicles in their patrol operations and assured that the Assemblies will act swiftly deal with the situation to restore normalcy on the road.
He charged the residents of Effutu and its adjoining Districts to volunteer information on suspected characters to the security agencies for further investigation and action.
