The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) through its Foundation on Monday, November 20, 2023 handed over a site for the construction of a state-of-the -art ICT Centre and a Library for the University Practice Basic School at the University of Education, Winneba North Campus.The project which is expected to be completed in six months with funding from Ghana’s oil proceeds when completed would enhance students’ basic knowledge in ICT training to be abreast with the changing times of the world. Mr. Osman Hardy, a Senior Officer with the GNPC’s Environmental and Social Amenities Foundation at the GNPC Foundation said that the project, funded by GNPC, was in fulfilment of a request made by the Member of Parliament for the Effutu Constituency, Hon. Alexander Afenyo-Markin.He said that the Board of GNPC at one of its meetings viewed the request as very essential after a needs assessment and took the decision to heed to the call of the Effutu Law Maker to improve E-Learning in the Municipality.According to him, GNPC has a mandate of using the proceeds of Ghana’s oil to development its communities and charged the construction firm Bonziwell Ventures to work hard to complete the project on schedule to benefit the Effutu people.The Effutu Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Alhaji Zubairu Kassim, expressed the gratitude of the Effutu people to GNPC for the support, saying that the project would in the long term benefit the entirety of the Municipality and Ghana as a whole.Hon. Zubairu Kassim noted that when completed, the project would be used to sharpen the minds of students in standardized tests to enhance their learning skills. He said that the facility would also provide software development training where students would learn how to create websites as well as mobile applications to improve their knowledge in technology.The Effutu MCE did not mince words in extolling the unique lobbying prowess of the Effutu Member of Parliament who he described as a gem with a major preoccupation of always satisfying the needs of his constituents.Hon. Alhaji Zubairu also admonished the contractor to complete and deliver a quality project on schedule within the Six-months stipulated time to serve the interest of the students in the Municipality.The Effutu Municipal Director of Education, Madam Diana Anderson, praised the GNPC and the Effutu MP for the immense contribution towards the development of education in the area.She however, requested for additional educational support to be extended to other parts of the Municipality to boost efforts at improving the sector to enhance effective teaching and learning in Effutu.
