WINNEBA SECONDARY SCHOOL HOLDS 74TH SPEECH AND PRIZE GIVING DAY

The Municipal Chief Executive for the Effutu Municipal Assembly, Hon. Alhaji Zubairu Kassim has challenged old students of Winneba Secondary School to give back to their Alma Mater in diverse forms to impact on the development of the future generation and the country as a whole.
According to him, giving back support through financial contributions, volunteerism and mentorship would help the school maintain its status as the pillar of excellence in Effutu with over seven decades of providing quality education and shaping the lives of countless individuals.
Hon. Alhaji Zubairu Kassim made the call at the 74th Speech and Prize-Giving Day of the Winneba Secondary School under the theme: “Seventy-Four Years of Quality Education: Giving Back to Your Alma Mater”
He said that supporting the current generation of students would position them into becoming self-directed learners with confidence and active contributors to society, armed with all the essential ingredients towards national development.
The Effutu MCE pledged the Assembly’s commitment at working together with the school authorities to provide the needed infrastructure and resources to continue delivering outstanding education to the future generation of Effutu and the country as a whole.
The Personality of Honour for the occasion, George Addo-Yobo (Esq) charged all the relevant stakeholders in education to begin a national discussion on entrepreneurship being made part of the school curriculum from the basic level.
He said that it was only through entrepreneurship that graduates would reduce the over dependence on Government for jobs upon leaving school. It would also imbibe in the youth the spirit of identifying their talents at a tender age to establish their businesses after school to expand the economy for national development.
A former Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development under the erstwhile Kufuor administration and Agribusiness consultant, Hon Abraham Dwuma Odoom who chaired the occasion made a passionate call for agriculture to be treated as a business to ensure food sufficiency.
He said that prioritizing agriculture on all fronts of the country’s activities would catapult her into building a strong and resilient economy anchored of agricultural production.
Hon. Odoom who was a product of Winneba Secondary School intimated that Ghana would be able to stop importation of many items including rice if governments took a decision to making a conscious effort at investing heavily in the agricultural sector to make it the engine of growth.
He reaffirmed his commitment at mentoring more youth from Winneba Secondary School in the agricultural sector by announcing a partnership with an Indian International Agricultural Firm, Arima Farms to turn the arable lands of the school into farms and guiding the students to the prioritize agriculture for a major turnaround in the development of the area.
