MLGDRD TEAM VISITS EFFUTU MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY

As part of the roadmap for the sustenance of the implementation of the of Government of Norway supported Local Climate Adaptative Living Facility (LoCAL) mechanisms in selected Districts in Ghana including the Effutu Municipality, Fanteakwa North and Ada East District Assemblies, a team from United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) and the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development on Thursday, September 7, 2023 paid a working visit to the Effutu Municipal Assembly. The meeting was to among other things discuss the project with the management of the Assembly as well as provide the needed guidance on selection of sub- project interventions which must be resilient and in line with circular economy and climate smart agriculture. In an address, the Municipal Chief Executive for the Effutu Municipal Assembly, Hon. Alhaji Zubairu Kassim welcomed the team to the Municipality and urged them to offer the technical expertise needed for the successful operationalization of the project to the benefit of the Effutu people.He said that the guidance and directions from the team will propel the Assembly to meet the objectives of the project and position it to benefit from future interventions to positively impact on the development of the Municipality.A Technical Specialist for the Project, Madam Angela Yahyra Quashie, noted that the project will contribute to building green and climate resilient local economies in Ghana, applying circular economy and climate – smart agriculture (CSA) principles and solutions to local development pathways. According to her the project will implement locally led green and climate resilient public investments, while consolidating a country-based and internationally recognized LoCAL mechanism, to channel climate finance for local action through the performance- based climate resilience grant (PBCRG) system.Madam Yahyra Quashie charged the Assembly to brainstorm and review the already selected interventions as per the earlier directives to reflect the current objectives of the project.On his part Mr. Eric Kofi Afornorpe from the Ministry of Local Government Decentralization and Rural Development, announced that United Nations Capital Development Fund as part of efforts to sustain the implantation of the Local Climate Adaptative Living Facility (oLoCAL), in selected Districts including the Effutu Municipal Assembly has secured additional funding from the Norwegian Government.He admonished the Effutu Municipal Assembly to put in much efforts towards meeting the set objectives to sustain the programme to attract more funding to boost the development of the entire country.STORY BY: CHARLES BAAH ABOAGYE -ISD
