The Effutu Municipal Assembly on Wednesday, August 23, 2023 held an Emergency Executive Committee Meeting to review the Assembly’s approved Fee Fixing for the 2023 financial year on Burial and Cemetery as well as Market Stores charges in the Municipality.
The Meeting became necessary after a public outcry over the charges which had been purged at Ghc 2000 (Concrete and Vault), a fee they claimed was too exorbitant beyond the reach of the ordinary citizen of Effutu.
Hon. Alhaji Zubairu Kassim, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Effutu in his opening remarks called for the full participation of members in the deliberations to agree on a reviewed fee that will be embraced by the public to spur up the development of the Municipality.
He explained that it had become necessary to include the concerns of the people in the determination and review of fees payable by the citizens for onward presentation to the General Assembly for final approval.
The Executive Committee Members deliberated on a number of proposals and finally agreed to recommend the reduction of the earlier approved fee of Ghc 2000.00 by half for onward approval by the General Assembly.
On the discussion of the Fees for the Winneba Market Stores, the Executive Committee referred the matter to the Market Committee to engage with the stakeholders for further deliberations and report back to the Committee for recommendations to be made on the approved fees.
