EFFUTU MEHO JOINS ZOOMLION TO CLEAR DUMPING SITES

The Environmental Health Unit of the Effutu Municipal Assembly in collaboration with Zoomlion Ghana Limited has begun the clearing of major dumping sites in the Effutu Municipality as part of measures to improve sanitation and prevent epidemics such as cholera and other related ailments caused by filth.

The exercise which seeks to resolve and improve sanitation related challenges in the Municipality has led to the clearing of heaps of huge dumping sites in the Sankor and Ansaful communities.

The initiative forms part of an ongoing nationwide refuse evacuation exercise on dumping sites under the Government’s Clean Ghana Agenda aimed at resolving the sanitation challenges in the country. It also seeks to among other things address environmental concerns, promote sanitation and hygiene, and improve the overall well-being of communities across the country.

Recognizing the urgency to continue to improve upon the sanitation situation in the country, the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies in partnership with Zoomlion, a leading waste management company in the country have decided to clear major and accumulated heaps of refuse at various dumping sites in the country.

Zoomlion Ghna Limited, the implementing partners of the project have deployed trucks and technical expertise to convey the refuse to its final dumping site.

Speaking during the evacuation exercise, the Effutu Municipal Environmental Health Officer, Susana Martinson , who lauded the initiative by the Ministry, noted that the evacuation would ensure that refuse did not cause havoc in the areas where they were located and offered a relief for residents in those communities.

Madam Susana Martinson admonished the residents of Effutu to change their attitude towards the environment by adhering to cleaning their environments and homes to complement the ongoing “Operation Clean Your Frontage Campaign.

She announced that communal refuse containers have been placed at the sites for dumping of refuse to prevent the reoccurrence and accumulation of heaps of refuse in the communities.
